Gyirong normally refers to an area of valley starts from Gyirong County (alt.4200m), and extends downhill all the way to Gyirong Port (alt.1800m) via Gyirong Town (alt.2600m). The county looks still like a typical plateau settlement on the roof of the world, yet the altitude sees an abrupt descent of 1600 meters from the county to the town within 70kms, and another steep descent of 800 meters from the town to the port within 24kms.
